...at least for me and my freaky, nefarious purposes.

I'm thinking a Doc Marten boot (possibly steel-toed) with Birkenstock insoles. Ooooh. It feels a little perverse, mixing punk and hippie style like that, but I think it could potentially totally rock my world, or at least my feet, which as usual are a little sore after a long day (more on that in a bit --- first, more on the shoes).

What gave me the idea, or why am I bringing this up now? Well, the Birkenstock store in Eugene is having a sale, and I was thinking of going to check it out, but of course I started out by doing a little research online, which led me to the insoles and arch supports section of the Birkenstock online catalog. A few months back (and I had to search through my old entries for about half an hour to find that link), I speculated that Docs with insoles might be the ultimate in work shoes, and now this idea. Oh me oh my.

Ok, now I am distracted by talking to [livejournal.com profile] pants_of_doom on IM (she says I'm a freak, but the shoes are not her only data point for this conclusion) so I'll rant about the work stuff later.

Okay, so I went to Staples and got me some legal-size paper and had it cut in half so I can make it into blank books and write about it for Nervy Girl (actually, I've written a very rough draft of my article already but I want to make a book to fact-check my directions and so that I have a better mental picture to base my illustrations on). Unfortunately the paper wasn't cut very well, kinda crooked even. So these are going to be pretty shitty blank books, I'm afraid. Which makes me kinda grumpy. But oh well. It's kinda my own damn fault. The copy center clerk did warn me their papercutter wasn't the best, and she did give me a very apologetic discount. I should've listened to her warning and taken the paper somewhere else. Oh well.

In happier news, I love my new sneakers (they fit, which is a big relief), I hardly got rained on at all during my Staples run (partly because I'm super-speedy, partly because the weather decided to be ambivalent for a bit). Furthermore, there's garlic roasting in the oven (mmm, roasted garlic) and [livejournal.com profile] pmb is on his way to the local hippie food store for spinach, tomatoes, and tofu, which means I'll finally have me those wasabi mashed potatoes I've been craving for so long. Yay!

New Shoes!

Okay, so last week I realized that I'm literally wearing through the soles of my old hiking boots, which are almost six years old. I've been wearing them as sneakers since my last pair of sneakers died, but that was supposed to be a temporary solution until I got new sneakers. Then the REI outlet catalog came in the mail, and I thought, "Hey! I bet I could get me some cheap sneaks from the overstock or something!" So off I went to the interweb, and sure enough, found me some sneakers I liked at a reasonable price. But unfortunately the catalog only showed one color option --- black and silver, as shown in this entry's picture --- which was not available in my size. I could get the shoes in grey or silver, but I didn't know what either looked like. So in a fit of indecisiveness and pretending I'd gone to the mall with friends (something I never do), I asked [livejournal.com profile] pmb and [livejournal.com profile] chocolatesmudge for advice. [livejournal.com profile] chocolatesmudge said silver was spiffier, and I agreed.

Ten minutes ago, there was a knock at the door. FedEx, with a package from REI that had to be my new shoes. What a pleasant surprise, I thought. Then I opened the box. Oh my god, kids. Check out that picture, but instead of black, imagine bright, spitting lime green.

I love it.

This fits right in with my longstanding trend of super-cool, hideously ugly shoes (my bright orange Docs and their predecessors the bright orange Reeboks come to mind). I have yet to try them on, but I will do so as soon as I've had a shower. I am psyched as hell.

Today's "to do" list includes:

  • get me some legal size paper, and have it cut in half for bookbinding with
  • get spinach for wasabi mashed potatoes (and while I'm at it, we're out of tomatoes, tofu, and yeast)
  • make some illustrations for my "how to make a blank book" article for Nervy Girl (for everybody who only gets their news about me from this journal, I'm writing an article that's going to be published in a real live magazine and it is way cool).

Let's see if I actually get any of that done.
