Okay, so last week I realized that I'm literally wearing through the soles of my old hiking boots, which are almost six years old. I've been wearing them as sneakers since my last pair of sneakers died, but that was supposed to be a temporary solution until I got new sneakers. Then the REI outlet catalog came in the mail, and I thought, "Hey! I bet I could get me some cheap sneaks from the overstock or something!" So off I went to the interweb, and sure enough, found me some sneakers I liked at a reasonable price. But unfortunately the catalog only showed one color option --- black and silver, as shown in this entry's picture --- which was not available in my size. I could get the shoes in grey or silver, but I didn't know what either looked like. So in a fit of indecisiveness and pretending I'd gone to the mall with friends (something I never do), I asked
pmb and
chocolatesmudge for advice.
chocolatesmudge said silver was spiffier, and I agreed.
Ten minutes ago, there was a knock at the door. FedEx, with a package from REI that had to be my new shoes. What a pleasant surprise, I thought. Then I opened the box. Oh my god, kids. Check out that picture, but instead of black, imagine bright, spitting lime green.
I love it.
This fits right in with my longstanding trend of super-cool, hideously ugly shoes (my
bright orange Docs and their predecessors the bright orange Reeboks come to mind). I have yet to try them on, but I will do so as soon as I've had a shower. I am psyched as hell.
Today's "to do" list includes:
- get me some legal size paper, and have it cut in half for bookbinding with
- get spinach for wasabi mashed potatoes (and while I'm at it, we're out of tomatoes, tofu, and yeast)
- make some illustrations for my "how to make a blank book" article for Nervy Girl (for everybody who only gets their news about me from this journal, I'm writing an article that's going to be published in a real live magazine and it is way cool).
Let's see if I actually get any of that done.
