I had quick oats instead of the regular kind for breakfast this morning. They were inferior. I was disappointed. Now, don't get me wrong --- they weren't as foul as instant oatmeal, but then again, what is? (I think that's a rhetorical question, rather than a call for all y'all reading this to list off things that are disgusting.)

"Regular" oats (i.e. rolled oats, the kind usually sold as oatmeal everywhere) take maybe five minutes (ten minutes absolutely tops), depending on how much water you use, and how done you want them to be. Steel-cut oats, which are sometimes sold as "Irish oats", take half an hour but are oh so worth it when you have time. Yum. "Quick" or "minute" oats take a minute, and instant oats are instant plus the time it took you to heat the water, but they just aren't as good (especially the instant ones, with the exception of on camping trips, when they are a great way to get warm food and liquid into your body first thing in the morning when you need them most).
