I'll spare you the self-flagellatory details, but what you need to know is this: I killed my Palm. The good news is I'd backed up most of my memos and hadn't been using the Palm much lately since getting Spiffy (more on that later), but I'm still feeling kind of brain-fried, like the time I lost my notebook in Rome (wah). Anyway, if you want me to have your contact information, birthday, etc., send me email or fill out the following poll (results viewable only by me for your privacy and convenience):

[Poll #149209]

Besides my address book, the only really critical thing I lost was a bunch of lists, including more or less everything I'd read this year so far (big page counts, woo!) and my big lists of books and movies to read and see, and my lists of good gifts for people, so I made another little poll about that last (this one's publically viewable, for everyone's amusement and edification):

[Poll #149210]

Finally, I'm going to contact Palm to see if there's any way to recover my data, but in the meantime I'm taking suggestions for turning Spiffy the iBook into yet another data storage point, preferably one I can back up to and from my Palm (hopefully another Palm V, when I'm feeling rich enough). What kind of hardware and software do I need (besides the adaptor that makes it so I can actually connect the Palm to Spiffy)? In particular, I really liked my big bad listkeeper program for the Palm (I think it was called Handy Shopper 2?) so if anybody can point me in the direction of something along those lines for OS X, that would be great. Ok, thanks in advance, kids!

Do you still have the packaging and stuff for your Palm? My Handspring came with basic programs for Windows and the Mac that let me view and change the data when it's sitting on the computer, instead of just being a backup. If not, there's a Linux program (whose name I forget, but I found it by searching for something reasonable like "Palm Linux") that works for Palms and Handsprings and does the same thing. I don't know how well Linux and OS X play together, though.

Neither program gives extra features like your nifty lists and the UI is kind of annoying, but they make it easy to poke through backed-up data.

Bummer, HandyShopper is like the best thing since sliced bread... I have more fun organizing my shopping trips than I do shopping. Course that isn't saying much because I pretty much despise shopping.
