I so did not know what to have for lunch today, but popcorn turned out to be just right. Yay! I like making popcorn in a pan; it feels much more real than the microwave bags, even if those are a wonder of the modern age. Of course, we don't have a microwave, so that probably affects my opinion on the matter somewhat.

This is a really fun game. 20 Questions with a database that draws funny funny conclusions depending on the information you (and the other registered users) give it. Stuff like: "Tofu probably doesn't lift the spirits" and "Tofu cannot liquefy small furry animals". Whee! Fun fun! Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] qousqous for showing it to me.

Update, 4:02 PM: Do any of you know of a way to make "Don't auto-format" as a default setting? I keep having to go back and click the box after I update my journal, because I forget to do it the first time and it makes everything look all goofy.

Things I didn't know

A kitten cannot be ingested
You don't need batteries to use a kitten

20 Questions really is too fun.

Careful! That game can suck hours, even days of your life away!

At my house, we always had one of those air-popper things. And Johnny's Popcorn Salt. Johnny's is based in Tacoma, WA, I think, but may be in stores up where you are. Yum, popcorn.

I swear by the air popper.

Not as fake-feeling and icky-greasy as microwave, yet it doesn't ever burn.

I am so glad you don't need batteries to use a kitten.

It can too!

20q.net is downright eerie though. I'm truly amazed.

In terms of popcorn, I think the good stuff is made in a wok (i.e. cooked in oil). Ian Schempp recently introduced me to the practice of peppering popcorn, which is pretty cool.

20Q didn't know what an extra-large breadbox was, but I don't really blame it. I couldn't give it particularly good answers to all of the questions....

I don't have a wok, sadly. Of course, the stove in our current apartment is electric, so even if I had a wok I couldn't use it very well. For this afternoon's popcorn I used a heavy-bottomed 2-liter pot and olive oil and it worked great. I seasoned it with salt and pepper, but I've had great successes with butter and garlic and parmesan cheese, too. Yum.

Yeah, I spent aboout half an hour training it on "Lettuce" once. It was much better at guessing "Lettuce" (correctly) when I was done.
