I've just set two groups up: people and groups. You can then go to livejournal.com/users/your username/people to get the people group (and /groups for the groups group). It's nice at work when I don't really want to have some of my more image-intensive groups up on my screen. And if you want to see all of the people & groups together, they still display in your normal friends list.
